Shaanxi Establishes Sister State Relationship with Nebraska

On November 9, Governor Hu Heping met with his counterpart Pete Ricketts, Governor of Nebraska State, US in Xi’an. Both sides have signed the agreement on establishing the relationship of sister province, and witnessed the signing of the MOU on Nebraska (Yangling) Agricultural Science Park project.

Hu extended a warm welcome to delegates of Nebraska government and enterprises led by Pete. He said that, driven by the “Belt & Road” strategy, Shaanxi has accelerated its opening to the outside, and has seen increasingly frequent cultural exchange and economic and trade contact with Nebraska. Shaanxi is an important modern agricultural base of China, and Nebraska boasts advanced agriculture. Both economies have many in common and enjoy a high complementarity, and thus have a good foundation for cooperation. The signing of the agreement for establishing sister provinces has turned over a new page for the bilateral relations. He hoped that both sides could establish a much closer docking mechanism for cooperation, give full play to respective advantages, and continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation in agriculture, investment, commerce and trade, culture and education, and medical health, etc., setting an example for local cooperation between China and US.

Pete expressed that he will encourage more enterprises to invest and start business in Shaanxi, and conduct mutually beneficial cooperation in more fields.

Situated in the midwestern US, Nebraska is an important producing area of corn, wheat, and ox of US, enjoying the title of “State of Beef” and “State of Corn Husk”. During his visit from November 8 to 10 of the delegation of the State government and enterprises led by Pete, the two sides also held economic and trading cooperation meeting in Xi’an, and went to Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone and attended the China Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Fair and the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Nebraska-Yangling Agricultural Sci-tech Park Project.
