First SCO People's Forum Opens in Xi’an

The first SCO People's Forum, organized by China NGO Network for International Exchange,Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, and sponsored by Shaanxi Foreign Affairs Office (FAO), opens in Xi’an Sofitel Hotel on April 9. The forum, with the theme of “Promoting Regional Peace and Cooperation for a Community of Shared Benefits: NGO Mission”, was attended by more than 200 people home and abroad from 12 countries, like the former heads of state from SCO state countries and observer states, representatives from NGO, think tanks and media.

Ji Bingxuan, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. He expressed his hope for the full participation of the forum, by engaging to deep exchanges and cooperation, the forum will become a platform to offer suggestion and renew friendship.

Governor Liu Guozhong said Shaanxi is implementing the guiding principles of the 19thParty Congress and is dedicated to building itself into the “Belt and Road” Logistics Center, International Capacity Cooperation Center, Education Center, Culture Travel Center and the Silk Road Financial Center. Shaanxi will greatly develop "hub model" economy, portal economy and flow economy in the years ahead.

Wang Yajun, Vice Minister of the IDCPC (International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC), Advisor of China NGO Network for International Exchange, said in his speech that non-governmental exchange serves as the propelling force for SCO development and the content of cooperation among SCO member states.

The forum consists of the opening ceremony, closing ceremony, plenary session and parallel sessions. H.E. Mr. Nepal, Former PM of Nepal, and Mr. Luo Guangming, Deputy Secretary of SCO, addressed the audience at the opening ceremony.
