The Belt and Road International Symposium (2016) was held in Xi'an on September 26. Mr. Liu Qibao, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Central Secretariat and Minister of the Central Propaganda Department, attended the symposium and delivered a keynote speech entitled "Promote Common aspiration to achieve win-win cooperation".

Liu Qibao pointed out that, over the past three years since President Xi Jinping proposed the Belt and Road initiative, the progress is beyond our expectation. Countries along the route should gather strength, strive to absorb nutrients from the spirit of the Silk Road, adhere to mutual respect and mutual trust, and build a solid foundation for win-win cooperation. We should insist on openness and inclusiveness, and seize the opportunities of win-win cooperation; We should persist in peaceful development, guarding the road of win-win cooperation. We would like to create a green, healthy,intellectiveand peaceful Silk Road.
Liu QiBao stressed that the Belt and Road initiative means to achieve connectivity both in terms of roads and among the people. We will keep upholding the principle of promoting both economic cooperation and cultural exchanges and persevere in diverse coexistence, mutual learning, cooperation and sharing to promote cultural innovation and strengthen cultural cooperation. We should further expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as education, culture, journalism, sports, tourism, archaeology, etc., and consolidate the common ground of people of all nationalities along the silk road to make peoples understand and respect each other and different cultures and faiths in the Afroeurasian continent to create an environment of mutual appreciation, mutual understanding and mutual respect.
In his speech, Lou Qinjian said the Belt and Road International Symposium is of great significance for further awakening various civilization memories of ancient Silk Road and the consensus of uniting the countries along the line for a better future. With a long history and rich culture, Shaanxi has nurtured and witnessed the splendor of the ancient Silk Road. The starting point of the Silk Road has laid a solid cultural foundation for Shaanxi in its opening to the world. The unique location makes Shaanxi a core area, a platform of comprehensive logistics and production cooperation, economic and trade exchanges, as well as cultural exchanges, etc., on the Silk Road which brings a solid cooperation support with the countries along the line. Taking this meeting as an opportunity, we will learn from all the successful experience and converge all the production factors for development to speed up the building of a new highland land of reform and opening up.
